Airbells[1] are large green plants found in the Eastern Sea, seen near Awa'atlu.

The plant resembles a group of seaweeds. It grows from the seabed and climbs up with long stems reaching several dozen or even several hundred meters in length. It is topped with an oval bell-shaped bladder, hence the name. This bell is open at the bottom and has an air pocket inside.

The Airbell first appeared in Avatar: The Way of Water. While Kiri, Lo'ak, Rotxo, Aonung, Tuktirey, and Tsireya were being pursued by Mako Submersibles and Crab Suits, they swam under and entered the air pocket contained in the plants' bell to hide from their pursuers.

Trivia[]

  • The airbell was meant to be shown earlier in the story. There is a deleted scene of Tsireya and Lo'ak swimming into one and being amused by their voices echoing inside.
  • Airbells are similar in color, texture, and overall appearance to giant kelp, which also has bumpy green leaves and gas bladders (albeit part of the blades, or "leaves"), called floats, that resemble their Pandoran equivalents. However, Airbells also have orange and blue coloration on the "leaves" and additional protrusions resembling those of feather boa kelp.
