Back on Earth, she lived in a desert region which was invaded a long time ago for the purpose of oil. She also has a cousin named Farid Bensalem on Earth.
She is an excellent pilot, trained in the Algerian Air Force. She comes from a family of academics, who never understood the attraction to the military. Estranged from her family, Anqa joined the Resources Development Administration for a new life. She tried to rebel against the RDA from the inside once she saw how they were treating the Na'vi.
Anqa is first encountered at the Resistance HQ. While working with Priya Chen to analyze the pollution in the Spinner's Circle area after the destruction of the Echo pneumatic drilling rig, she presents the situation to the protagonist.
While searching for the owner of a damaged tablet found in the threaded river, suspicion directs the protagonist toward Anqa. She accidentally admits that she knows what device she's talking about and asks Sarentu to talk to her privately. There she confesses that under the conditions of the investigation, in addition to the ongoing war with the RDA, she craved a little romance, so she went to a secluded place and recorded effusive declarations of love. However, she was not careful and crashed into a branch, which in turn knocked down a hellfire wasp nest, from which she had to escape as quickly as possible.
Anqa has romantic feelings for Priya. An audio log in Resistance HQ from Anqa mentions a meteor shower she wants to watch with Priya, stating, "It's supposed to be really pretty. And that made me think of you." Later, the Sarentu finds an abandoned tablet in the wilderness containing recordings of Anqa practicing confessing her love to Priya, though even the Sarentu feels they are awkward and embarrassing. Anqa eventually admits the tablet is hers but makes the Sarentu swear not to tell anyone.
Later, however, Anqa feels she cannot repress her feelings anymore and asks for the Sarentu's help scoping out a location she can take Priya to as well as some things Priya likes. Despite some obstacles, they eventually meet up at Evergreen Station and spend a romantic evening together with Priya reciprocating Anqa's feelings.
Anqa's Father[]
Anqa seems to have a confrontational relationship with her father. In background chatter, she states: "Wish Dad could see me now. Eh... he'd still hate it."
The relationship between Anqa and Priya is the first same-sex relationship openly seen in the Avatar franchise. There is also idle dialogue from a female Zeswa clan member discussing wanting to speak to her female crush.
