Avatar 7 is a hypothetical seventh installment of the Avatar series. According to James Cameron, he has "plans" for a sixth and seventh installment, but whether they were produced would depend on demand. He also stated that he would have to train someone to direct the film(s), and that he would not be the director, given his age.[1]
Development[]
In 2025, James Cameron mentioned, "I was the wrong guy to make Avatar, it should have been an Indigenous filmmaker." and said he only got to make Avatar because he made Titanic, which he described as "a story about white people". However, because Avatar is an allegory for Indigenous oppression, he expressed desire to have more Indigenous writers and filmmakers involved with the Avatar franchise, commenting it as him "passing the baton" with the series so people of color can have authentic voices and speak for themselves through empowerment and creative job opportunities.[2]
Trivia[]
- James Wan, who is involved with horror franchises (Saw, The Conjuring, M3GAN) expressed interest in taking over the Avatar films if James Cameron is reluctant.[3]
