The Blistering Root is woody, vinelike flora that grows along the ground. Its weblike tendrils spreading vigorously and indefinitely with softer, brighter colored roots growing from its harder, knottier stems.
Resembling a web of tree roots, the plant grows no leaves, fruits, or flowers, but emits toxic spores which burns the skin of much Pandoran wildlife. The plant's simple nervous system causing its roots to writhe if stepped on, releasing more spores that act as both a defensive and offensive mechanism.
Tougher animals are quickly repelled from the organism, whereas weaker ones are killed. Although not technically carnivorous, the blistering root does feed from the decomposing bodies of creatures and insects that die on its writhing, stinging mass.
The blistering root can grow anywhere it finds damp conditions and some shade. It is commonly found under dense forest canopy, sheltered against natural rock formations and within caves.
Na'vi Culture[]
This blistering root is almost universally avoided by Na'vi because of its painful sting, aggressive growth and the unfavorable hunting conditions around the areas it thrives in. However, it has one niche usage within Na'vi culture with the Western Frontier. Blistering root bark that has been sundried and finely ground is still poisonous, but it can be used very sparingly as a seasoning. "Stinging spice" is described as having a very sharp, fiery taste and a numbing effect on the lips and tongue. Many Na'vi find this flavor extremely unpalatable.
