Blood Urchin is flora in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

The blood urchin is globular fungus that produces an irregular crown of long, finely serrated thorns from its cap. Its distinctive coloring of vivid reds to darker purples is due to a high iron content in the organism's composition.

The mushroom propagates quickly via the mist of spores that it perpetually emits, and mushroom patches are often found covering up to 30 meters, making the area inhospitable to animal life. The brittle, sharp spines of the blood urchin mean it is rarely disturbed by fauna, nothing eats it and even the toughest skinned creature does not want to stand on it twice.

The blood urchin grows in large clusters, favoring shade and damp conditions. Although smaller patches have been found inside caves, it routinely grows around the base of trees in the Crimson Great Wood.

Na'vi Culture[]

Na'vi consider the blood urchin a nuisance.

Its rapid growth and capacity to make a well-trodden route unnavigable in a matter of days is well known, and many a Na'vi child has puncture scars on their feet from unknowingly stepping on a patch.

But to hunters, the blood urchin creates an opportunity. A new patch of blood urchin is referred to as "lucky blood," uncertain animals often leave clear tracks around the edge of a patch, as they try and navigate around it, making for easier tracking.
