Coiling sunshine (Na'vi name: kurslärwll) is a plant that grows in the darkened confines of Pandoran caves, hanging from the ceiling. It largely feeds on micro-bacteria and mineral rich waters found in cave air.
Its upper body structure is hard and shell-like, fanning out from a central point, where deep roots cling to the ceiling. Beneath the upper body, a series of softer tendrils dangle towards the cave floor, where frilled leaves catch micro-bacteria floating in the breeze. These tendrils are fragile and highly sensitive, and the plant's rudimentary nervous system protects them. If they detect movement or feel contact, they retract towards their more protective shell-like body.
Found in caves across the Western Frontier, coiling sunshine favor the safety of subterranean formations. They grow from the ceilings of these caves, dangling in the dark.
Na'vi Culture[]
Some Na'vi clans regard coiling sunshine as beacons to guide their path. This is primarily due to their bioluminescence creating a navigational pathway through the darkest spaces of the Western Frontier. On many occasions, these plants have guided lost Na'vi through labyrinthine cave networks, returning them to the world above.
