The Dodiapede is a large, bipedal creature appearing in Avatar: Reckoning.
The dodiapede is an omnivorous predatory bird-like creature that roams of packs of four to six. It tends to preys on small animals. Dodiapedes are oviparous animals which build big open nests for their eggs.
Anatomy[]
The dodiapede’s four arms are attached to its wing membranes, but it has lost the ability to fly. It has demonstrated an ability to hover slightly with its small wings. The dodiapede has well-developed strong hind legs, allowing it to jump high and balance well on one leg. The dodiapede has a large flap of skin under its lower jaw, similar to the pelican of Earth. Towards the end of its tail lies an elaborate fluke that shares a resemblance to the now extinct whales.
Pandorapedia Entry[]
The Dodiapede is fierce by nature, and although it cannot fly, it has explosive muscles and four pairs of membranous wings to maintain balance. It can easily leap over several meters in height and move quickly between trees and obstacles in small groups. They are loaded with "weapons", almost as if they are a living Swiss Army knife. The skull is mostly fused, turning its beak into a fearsome hammerhead, and its sturdy legs make kicks extremely powerful, even relying on its well-developed throat muscles to squeeze and remotely eject a liquid that stings its opponents. No matter how careful one can be encountering it, it is always better to tread as light as possible.
Attack Pattern[]
Aside from pecking and scratching with their sharp beak and claws, they can attack hostiles from a distance by regurgitating the contents of their stomach, which are mixed with stomach acid.[1]
Subspecies[]
- Red Crested Climber - Cousins who live in the Highlands
Trivia[]
- The original name for the creature, ostrich, shared an identical name with the Terran creature. This makes sense as the dodiapede shares a large resemblance to the ostrich.
- It may be a genetic relative of the Austrapede and Great Austrapede.
- During development, the name changed from Ostrich to Dodiapede.
