The Feather Blade (Na'vi name: Yawrwll) is uniquely adapted to the blustery conditions of the Upper Plains.
A few tall, tough leaves grow facing prevailing winds. Their frayed edges and heavy striations have evolved to channel the breeze around the plant without snapping the leaves or stems.
These act as windbreaks for the core of the plant, including its seed pods and a great profusion of long, feathery stamens. In dryer weather conditions, these stamens constantly disperse the plants sticky pollen.
The feather blade favors open, sunny areas and is partially dependent on zoophilous pollination. Pollen is carried by animals such as direhorses and arrow deer against prevailing wind currents in order to reach plants upwind.
Na'vi Culture[]
The Na'vi have several uses for the feather blade.
The leaves make impromptu windbreaks for starting fires, and the long stamens, when properly dried, make easily lit, sweet-smelling kindling. The feather blade seed is also edible to the Na'vi, a large and starchy nut with several cooking applications.
The feather blade benefits from the Na'vi's interest in the plant. Na'vi foragers have learned that it is far easier to harvest the seed from a newly pollinated feather blade and will happily carry the sticky pollen on their body or mount from one plant to another.
Gameplay[]
Feather blades are most commonly found in Windswept Grasslands Biome. Rarer feather blades are often found in the Wild Purple Steppe biome.
Its best quality is when it is dry.
