Flutterflowers (Na'vi name: Syulì'ang) are flying insects on Pandora.
They have fine, delicate wings, enabling it to glide elegantly through the air with minimal effort. These wings are vibrant and reflect the appearance of many of Pandora's plants.
Hanging below their bodies is a small claw which has a firm grip. Flutterflowers use this claw to grip on to tree branches and roots, pinning themselves in place while relaxing. During strong winds, flutterflowers grip hold of each other too, so as not to drift apart.
When they are hooked in place, the flutterflower's wings disguise it as flora growing from its anchor point. However, when threats approach, the insects release their grip, and frantically dance through the air as they make their escape.
Young Na'vi are often tantalized by these beautiful creatures - and sometimes carry flutterflowers to areas abundant in small insects to watch them feed. Once there, the flutterflowers use their claw to take hold of the Na'vi's hands, resting gently on them like a kite in the breeze.
