The Heartlands Feather Blade is a Feather Blade plant that reveals its seeds if it comes into contact with pollen from another featherblade.
Commonly grows near water throughout the Open Grasslands and Feathered Grasslands of the Heart of the Plains.
Cooking[]
Using a Heartlands Feather Blade Seed as the main cooking ingredient in combination with zakru milk is rumored to have a special effect.
Anatomy[]
The feather is uniquely adapted to the blustery conditions of the upper plains, and it thrives in the Heart of the Plains.
A few though, tall leaves grow facing prevailing winds. Their frayed edges and heavy striations have evolved to channel the breeze around the plant without snapping the leaves or stems.
These act as windbreaks for the core of the plant, including its seed pods and a great profusion of long, feathery stamens. In dryer weather conditions, these stamens constantly disperse the plant's sticky pollen.
The feather blade favors open, sunny areas and is partially dependent on zoophilous pollination. Pollen is carried by animals such Direhorse and arrow deer against prevailing wind currents in order reach plants upwind.
The Na'vi have several uses of the feather blade.
Its leave make impromptu windbreaks for starting fires, and the long stamens, when properly dried make easily lit, sweet-smelling kindling. The feather blade seed is also edible to the Na'vi, a large and starchy nut with several cooking applications.
The feather blade benefits from the Na'vi interest in the plant. Na'vi foragers have learned that it is far easier to harvest the seed from a newly pollenated feather blade and will happily carry the sticky pollen on their body or mount from one plant to another.
Seed[]
The feather blade seed is a tall, pointed nut encased in papery, somewhat blistered skin. It is edible and extremely palatable to the Na'vi who use the large and starchy nut in several cooking application.
A seed contains the embryo of a plant, which is dispersed by various means to propagate the species. Seed have a variety of practical and cultural use to the Na'vi and are frequently gathered as staple foods.
