Horned Teylu (Na'vi name: Teylu Leslukx) are large insects, coated in bright, fluffy fur that regulates their body temperature and protects them during harsh weather conditions. They skulk through the rainforest in search of nourishing leaves to feast on, preferably those on the very tops of trees. Thanks to a series of limbs beneath their body, they are able to traverse across vines and tree-trunks in an undulating wave motion.
While searching for food, they are often coveted by predators. Fortunately, they are adorned with horns, which, though useless, combine with their fur to make their bodies look bigger than many smaller predators. Their fur also contains stinging properties which help to deter larger predators from attacking. Fortunately, Na'vi only feel a slightly irritating tickle from these stings.
When mating, Horned Teylu use their long, double tails with elegant plumes of fur on the end as part of a ritual. For the ritual, they sway their tales from side to side in a display of prowess for a potential mate.
As well as consuming their meat, Na’vi utilize the fur of Horned Teylu for clothing that can protect against harsh weather conditions. It is also regarded as one of the softest furs found in the Western Frontier, and as such, provides comfort for young children and elderly Na’vi alike. Across Pandora there are many other species of Teylu, all highly coveted for their abundance and protein.
