Horse Clan Plains

3D Version: red/cyancross-eyedThe plains of the Horse clan

The Horse clans of the Plain are an unknown number of Na'vi clans, who, unlike the Omaticaya clan, live in wide, open plains instead of jungle. One of them has been confirmed as the Olangi clan.

The clans live in the shade of the massive trees that number the plain, making homes that are thought to be wicker huts, made from long grasses or wood, with fires in the center. This is assumed to protect them from possible storms and strong wind.

The clans specialized in cavalry, utilizing direhorses. One or more of these clans are led by an unnamed Horse clan leader. When summoned by Toruk Makto, they assisted in the defense of the Tree of Souls during the final battle in Avatar. They played an important role in the conflict as cavalry, essentially attempting to halt the advance of RDA AMP suits and infantry units. They sustained heavy casualties through the course of the battle, though the exact number is unknown.

They were supported by Norm Spellman in his avatar form, and later in his human form, who helped to direct the ground assault by keeping in contact with Jake Sully using a throat microphone.

The Olangi clan is one of the only known named horse clans. The Olangi clan is nomadic, with their movement based on following game during its seasonal migratory patterns. The Olangi clan highly value the freedom this allows them, seeing it as a privilege and a birthright to have the chance to spiritually "see" much of Pandora. Above all other horse clans of the plain, they're seen as premier direhorse riders.[1]

  • Influence for the plains dates back to a painting James Cameron did in 1979, described as having "magenta grass". Said painting also influenced the final planet in his film Xenogenesis. [2]
