The Hunt Festival Concept-art

Hunt Festival Concept art

The Hunt Festival is a traditional festival that ends the Great Hunt of the Omatikaya clan, which takes place during the sturmbeest's annual migration through the river deltas beyond the Hometree. During the festival, the Na'vi have fun dancing in colorful animal costumes around the fire, eating meat and drinking kava.

2154 Festival[]

Immediately after the Great Hunt in 2154, the Na'vi host a Hunt Festival, which is joined by Jake, Grace Augustine, and Norm Spellman. Neytiri wears a costume representing the banshee and dances, while Norm, after drinking kava, dances seductively with his tail, and Grace sits nearby, and drinks a bit of kava.

During the festival, Jake, sitting surrounded by young hunters, tells them about the Great Leonopteryx attack. Tsu'tey and his hunters also attend. Saeyla invites Tsu'tey for a dance, but he refuses and tells Ka'ani to dance with her instead. He then invites Jake to drink kava with him and Jake, despite Grace's warnings, does so, after which the two drunkenly sit down next to each other. Tsu'tey tries to converse with Jake, admitting that he had not previously perceived the Sky People as worthy warriors, but Jake managed to change his mind. However, in the midst of reconciliation, Neytiri asks Jake out for a dance, while ignoring her fiancé, and jealousy reignites in Tsu'tey's heart, ruining her peaceful intentions. Mo'at and Eytukan comment that the bond between Jake and Neytiri must not grow.

Trivia[]

  • The Hunt Festival appears in the comic Avatar: Tsu'tey's Path issue 3, although was not completed and included in the first film. It is included as a deleted scene in the Extended Collector's Edition.
