Ja, also known as Alexander, was one of a dozen resurrected SecOps soldiers as part of Project Phoenix. He was a Recombinant member of the first Recom squad under the command of Recom Quaritch.
Biography[]
Ja was once a human SecOps operative serving under Colonel Miles Quaritch in 2154. At some point during the Battle of Ayram Alusìng he was killed in action. Two hours prior to his death, Ja had his memories uploaded onto a Soul Drive, which was then sent back to Earth during the expulsion of the Resources Development Administration from Pandora. This copied consciousness was then downloaded into Ja's Recombinant in 2170 aboard the ISV Vindicator.
Avatar: The Way of Water[]
He assisted Quaritch during his mission to find and kill Jake Sully, kidnapping several of the Sully children, as well as Spider. He survived the initial onslaught in the forest by Jake, Neytiri and Neteyam.
Lo'ak takes Ja's assault rifle.
During the skirmish at the Three Brothers, Ja was later killed when Payakan breached onto the SeaDragon and crushed him, along with several other personnel and vehicles. Lo'ak took the opportunity to take Ja's assault rifle.
Trivia[]
- According to actor Johnny Alexander, there is a mix-up in Avatar: The Way of Water: The Visual Dictionary that incorrectly misidentifies the names of Brown, Lopez and Ja.[1]
- The book credits Recom Ja as Recom Alexander.
- Throughout the production, the character was named Recom Ja before James Cameron changed it to Recom Alexander, and a month before the release it was changed it back to Ja.[2]
- Some of the Recoms are named after their actors, with "Ja" serving as the initials for Johnny Alexander.
- Ja is the sixth Recom to die.
