Kayì spent most of his adult life as a healer and medicine maker. When Asahe, the previous tsahìk was injured, it became clear there was nothing he could do to prevent her passing. At Ka'nat's request, he shifted into the role of death doula for Asahe, comforting her and easing her pain before helping her return to Eywa.
Now, he serves as both a knowledgeable healer and an end-of-life guide for the clan. He is kind to those in his care but can be prickly and brusque when he believes injuries could have been easily avoided. Since he cared for Etuwa during the grief of her mother's passing, he has a soft spot for her.

Kayì asks the Sarentu to help him say goodbye to the dying man and then find Tsu'kiri in the forest, who is mourning the death of their friend. Later, Kayì will ask the Sarentu to find Eetu, who was literally devastated by the death of his IkranZomey, and to help the young hunter overcome the loss.
