Kite mantas (Na'vi name: syo'tsway) are graceful invertebrates that gently cruise through the air thanks to their extremely light bodies. Their large wings are made from thin, translucent skin, allowing the kite manta to sail on small gusts of wind, maneuvering through currents in the breeze with little to no effort.
Through further manipulation of their limbs and subtle control of their wings, the kite manta is able to steer its way through mountainous areas of the Clouded Forest where they scour the air for small insects and micro-organisms to consume.
In some Na'vi clans, kite mantas are the inspiration for calming ritual that takes place in windy weather conditions. For the ritual, solitary Na’vi find a tall peak to sit on and allow their bodies to be gently swayed by the breeze.
The kite manta egg is usually found in clutches atop tall frillstem trees in a nest. After the soft eggs are laid, they dry into a hard and lustrously patterned shell.
