Lamp lizards (Na'vi name: wuwuk le'awtu) are slow moving creatures on Pandora.
Anatomy[]
They use their six limbs and long tail to traverse across trees and branches. As they travel, they search for small insects to consume. Their large tongues can easily pluck bugs from leaves and from the air.
When threatened, lamp lizards have a unique ability to rapidly suck in air and inflate, becoming almost five times as large as their deflated size. This defense mechanism serves only to intimidate predators into fleeing and does not cause any actual harm.
Lamp lizards have soft temperaments, minding their own business and going about their way. Any non-threatening interaction with a lamp lizard always results in complete and utter indifference on their part.
This extends to their own species as well, as lamp lizards prefer solitude, making a conscious effort to avoid each other. When it comes to offspring, lamp lizards have an asexual reproductive process, and do not require a mate. Once the child is born, it immediately turns and sets off on its own solitary path.
Na'vi Culture[]
Na’vi regard lamp lizards as deeply private creatures. As such, some Na'vi cultures use the name "lamp lizard" as a term of endearment for someone who enjoys privacy within a tribe - and consider the lamp lizard as a lesson in the value of taking the time to be mindful of oneself.
