The M83 Rocket Launcher is a Resources Development Administration-designed collapsible rocket-propelled grenade launcher built for Human needs but can also be used to the scale of a Recombinant or a Skel Suit operator - albeit awkwardly - and are used by the RDA in the Western Frontier.[1] It is a standard RPG used for anti-armour and anti-personnel purposes.
Description[]
The M83 Rocket Launcher is the ground equivalent of the TOXON-81 MANPAD Missile Launcher that is made specifically for ground or entrenched opponents. It is an over-the-shoulder rocket-propelled grenade launcher that fires Recombinant-scaled high-explosive fragmentation rockets that deals lethal damage to anything from small targets and even AMP suits given the sheer amount of fragmentation.[1]
Aim is done through two holographic sights on the side for better aiming. On the side of the weapon, there is a printed instruction manual on how one should safely use this weapon as follows:[1]
- Check muzzle cover for damage
- If damaged, check for objects inside
- Fold out shoulder stock
- Release sights
- Pull safety pin
- Cock firing mechanism
- Aim, set range if known or estimated to be greater than 250 meters
- Push safety and hold down
- Fire by pushing trigger
Due to the large warheads, a Na'vi or anyone of equivalent size, could only carry three rockets at a time.[1] Likewise, due to their importance in destroying the large Pandoran megafauna, these weapons are only housed deep within RDA bases in case an incursion were to happen.[1]
In Game[]
In Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the M83 Rocket Launcher is pound-for-pound, the most powerful and destructive weapon in the game. It is capable of destroying an AMP suit in a single shot despite the warhead not being HEAT. It is also a relatively rare weapon, only appearing in RDA bases and being unable to be kept by the player due to its large and heavy size. As such, it is best to use this weapon largely for anti-armour purposes due to being both extremely situational and extremely rare.
Trivia[]
- If one were to read the instruction manual, the RPG has an effective range no greater than 250 meters. Compare this to the older RPG-7 which has an effective range between 1,100-900 meters, this is an order of magnitude less than its real-world counterpart.
