The Mag-Lev Jungle Train[1] or otherwise known as the RDA Mag-Lev Train[2][3] is one of the RDA's main modes of freight transportation and logistics used to quickly transport goods ranging from construction materials[3] to weapons such as Recom M69-ARs and TOXON-81 MANPAD Missile Launchers to Bridgehead.[3]
Specifications[]
As its name implies, the Mag-Lev Train is a type of train that runs on magnetic levitation rather than traditional rails. This allows the train to achieve speeds beyond that of traditional railway vehicles in a cost-effective manner.[2]
The train is massive compared to the ones on Earth, with the dimensions of both the train and its tracks being double to the trains in the 21st century on every axis.[1] A full-blown military armored train, due to the harsh nature of Pandora,[1] these trains are decently armored with a enlarged wedge plow at the front to clear any foliage in the way.
The train is made up of nine cars. It reaches a length of 360 meters or 900 feet,[1] making it one of the largest ground vehicles as well as the second longest ground vehicle for the RDA. The cars that make up the train include several stacked container/flatbed cars filled with resupply material for mining operations.[1] The cars include a defensive car located in the middle of the train that houses AMP Suits and SecOps troopers with built-in armament[1] and a helipad car forming the train's rear that carries at least one Seawasp or Kestrel.[1] The locomotive is equipped with a cowcatcher and snowplow which is built to deflect any animal or plant life that might end up on the track, with vinecutters on the side of it.[1]
In regards to the locomotive itself which is unmanned,[1] it is armed with at least two GAU 33-K Stub Wing Guns on top the train's cowcatcher,[1] two manned MBS-9M .50 Caliber Hydras on the side of the locomotive,[1] and at least one unknown CIWS[1] at the back of the locomotive for self-defense.[2]
Nevertheless, they still prove to be vulnerable, especially if their tracks were destroyed, derailing the vehicle in the process. Therefore, these trains often require an escort of Seawasps and Kestrel Gunships for protection.[2] One such train met this fate by Jake Sully, spilling its armed goods to the Na'vi.[2]
