Miles Quaritch's banshee is a mountain ikran that the Recombinant Miles Quaritch tamed and took as his own.

Appearance[]

The banshee's skin is dark blue with yellow, brown, and turquoise stripes, and the crest on its jaw is red. After being tamed by Quaritch, the banshee was outfitted with military gear, noticeably around its neck.

Biography[]

This ikran belonged to a colony that resided on top of Mons Veritatis in the Hallelujah Mountains. In 2170, he was tamed by Colonel Miles Quaritch, thanks to him being reborn as a recombinant and possessing queue that could form tsaheylu with the animal.

Quaritch, along with the other recoms and Spider went to the Hallelujah Mountains to acquire banshees. Initially, Quaritch planned to tranquilize the ikran, until learning about the Iknimaya rite from Spider and that this is what Jake had done for his Banshee. Quaritch then approached the ikran and the two fought as Quaritch tried to tame it. As Quaritch fought with the banshee, they fell off the cliff together, at which point Quaritch successfully bonded to the creature.

Quaritch flew his new mount together with Spider. The banshee took them to Bridgehead and then aboard the SeaDragon during the recom squad's mission to locate Jake Sully.

Quaritch also rode his mount during the battle with the Metkayina clan. During the battle, the ikran was used to help capture Jake Sully's children. It was also attacked from underwater by Jake Sully's skimwing and dragged underwater, but despite its injuries, it managed to escape. The banshee later found its rider on a rocky islet where Spider pulled him out of the water unconscious. When Spider leaves him after refusing to go, an injured and weakened Quaritch mounts his ikran and flies away.

Trivia[]

  • Although Quaritch did not practice Iknimaya in the traditional way, foregoing using a banshee catcher, the ikran presumably still chose Quaritch since it had mimicked his mannerisms and attempted to kill him which is what would happen during a typical Iknimaya rite.
  • The scene in which Quaritch tames his banshee in Avatar: The Way of Water heavily parallels that of Jake Sully taming Bob in the previous film.
  • When Quaritch approaches the banshee, he calls it "cupcake". While it is unclear if this is his name for the banshee, and if Quaritch even bothered to name the banshee later, Avatar fans have called the banshee Cupcake as a result.
