Okay, I got the explosives disarmed. We have control of the base. It's all yours in exchange for amnesty. And tell Sully we have his kids.McCosker to Ardmore
Nash McCosker appears in the comics Avatar: The Next Shadow and Avatar: The High Ground. He is the foster father of Miles "Spider" Socorro.
Biography[]
Avatar: The Next Shadow[]
McCosker is one of the workers who stayed on Pandora when RDA was driven out. McCosker is part of Katherine Hale's crew trying to keep Hell's Gate running.
When Hale and the crew arrived to a new mining site they had secured and Ka'ani went back on his word, McCosker still wanted to go ahead with the mining. The Na'vi shot some arrows at the machine, and McCosker with his men also raised arms. Fortunately, Jake Sully arrived in time to prevent the escalation of the situation, and convinced Hale and McCosker to return to Hell's Gate.[1]
Avatar: The High Ground[]
Under unknown circumstances, McCosker and his wife Mary adopted Miles Socorro (Spider), a boy born on Pandora shortly before the battle, whose mother, Paz Socorro, was killed in battle.
Although the McCoskers were Miles Socorro's official adoptive family, the boy, as he grew older, preferred spending time in the jungles of Pandora and leading a lifestyle similar to that of the Na'vi. Therefore, he willingly considered the Sully family his own, returning to the McCoskers, among others at night; McCosker then laughed that the boy would come back to them whenever the Sullys got tired of his company.
In 2168, when Spider was 14-years-old, he ran away with the Sully children Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuktirey to the old battlefield. When Jake Sully noticed them missing, he launched a search and informed McCosker of the entire incident. They boarded the Samson 21 piloted by Wu Mingxia and began the search. The missing children were eventually found by Jake's eldest son, Neteyam.
At the same time, a new threat led by General Ardmore was closing in on Pandora. Even before landing on the moon, the commander sent a message to all the people in Hell's Gate, calling them terrorists and urging them to surrender and return to the RDA's side. Those who refused received death threats. McCosker was one of the people who was spooked by the threat and asked for serious consideration. Therefore, he did not believe that a small group of people allied with Jake, or even a united Na'vi, could defeat ten incoming spaceships. He chose to surrender as a result.
McCosker later found Kiri taking Spider away. Upset, McCosker told Spider to stay with him. Jake arrived and McCosker said there were no hard feelings but felt that being engaged with the Na'vi's war was no place for a boy. At night, Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuktirey attempted to take Spider with them. However, they were soon found by McCosker who said they could be useful, although he ended trapping the children in separate rooms.
When the Na'vi are in space, Meg Elkins is murdered by McCosker or Earl. McCosker appears on a radio message to Ardmore saying the explosives on Pandora are disarmed and the Sully children have been captured. When Spider escaped by breaking a window, McCosker followed him but was soon found by the RDA who took him into custody. It is unclear what happened to McCosker and Mary after.
Trivia[]
- In the beginning of Avatar: The Way of Water, when a toddler Spider runs around the lab, a mustached man who appears similar to McCosker is seen on a chair. It is believed by some fans that this could be McCosker, similar to how Charles Stringer appeared as well.
- One of the soldiers who follows the Sully family into the forest looks similar to McCosker, raising the possibility he immediately geared up and pursued the RDA in their chase. He is seen being shot with an arrow. It is unclear if it is him due to the change in the comic's art style with no names being said.
- When asked about Nash's fate, Joshua Izzo mentioned it is yet to be disclosed.[2]
