Even as a child, Nefika was theatrical and loud. Her mother initially dissuaded her from weaving, but Nefika enjoyed creating vibrant designs and making up stories to go with them. Her peers made fun of her strange ideas though, and adults found her an attention-seeking pest. Insecure and lonely, she concentrated fully on her art, and over time, became known as one of the best weavers of her age.
However, Nefika was still lonely. She had spent so much time crafting her persona that she was unsure of herself and her own needs. Her desire for connection as a child developed into a love of gossip and drama as an adult. Sharp-witted, she always had the upper hand with other people. Her insecurities drove her to numerous relationships, romantic and otherwise. Popular with some, feared by others, she became a divisive figure in the clan.
She once was in a relationship with Ongwi and gave birth to Lurei. They broke off the relationship for unclear reasons. Nefika was always quite distant as a mother, more focused on her art and her position in the clan. During her teenage years, Lurei and Nefika clashed a great deal as Nefika's expectations for her were high, and somewhat motivated by who she wished she had been during her youth. Their relationship became colder as Lurei became invested in music and kinglor care instead of weaving to spite Nefika.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora[]
Nefika is one of several members of the Aranahe clan present in front of the Hometree when the protagonist arrives there for the first time. The clan's Olo'eyktan, Ka'nat, immediately recognizes the signs of RDA in Sarentu, but Nefika convinces him to let them into her village. Ka'nat reluctantly agrees, and Nefika shows them the Hometree.
Some time later, Nefika and the tsahìk of the clan Etuwa ask the Sarentu for help in determining the reason why the kinglors nest excessively in the hometree. A special ritual needs to be performed, so the protagonist is asked to collect nectar from the Swamp Hive to prepare the Niktsyey potion needed for the ceremony. After this mission, the three meet in the Glade of Light, secretly from Ka'nat, who would probably not agree to admit an outsider into the Aranahe tribal ritual. The potion is given to Queen Kinglor, who the protagonist then connects with through their kuru and receives a vision of her. Nefika and Etuwa listen carefully to what the Sarentu saw in their vision.
In order to fight RDA, and after gaining the trust of Nefika and Etuwa, the protagonist is tasked with taming their own ikran. Nefika and Eetu personally greet the Sarentu at the entrance to the tunnels leading to the Banshee Rookery, but only Eetu accompanies them on their further journey.
Nefika also involves the protagonist in additional tasks. One of them is helping her student Neytu, who fell from a height while climbing to the ikran colony and lost enthusiasm and faith in her dreams. She asks the Sarentu to learn Neytu's trade and thus encourage her to be open and honest in conversation.
Nefika is always over-the-top, full of colorful imagery and pushing the boundaries of Aranahe good taste just a little bit. If she ends up talking with someone in private, she turns out to be incredibly observant and is capable of surprising subtlety. Her sharp eye and vast interpersonal intelligence make her a great ally or a formidable foe.
