A Palulukan Makto is a Na'vi who has been able to tame a thanator.
For the Anurai clan, bonding with a wild thanator is a rare coming-of-age ritual, similar to Iknimaya of the Omatikaya, Tipani, and Tawkami clans. There have been thanator riders outside of the Anurai clan, however, such as Tan Jala and Hukato of the Tipani clan, whose thanators also allowed themselves to be ridden by Able Ryder.
Notable Thanator Riders[]
- Rai'uk and Kyuna of the Anurai clan were approached by thanators after helping the Li'ona clan and tamed them as their rite of passage.
- Tan Jala and Hukato of the Tipani clan; their thanators were also ridden by Able Ryder.
- Ni'awve shaman Atanwey obtained a thanator after Ryan Lorenz rescued him from captivity.
- Neytiri briefly became a thanator rider after a thanator presented itself to be ridden by her during the assault on the Tree of Souls. The thanator was later killed by Miles Quaritch.
Trivia[]
- According to Joshua Izzo, the creators of So'lek's Journey wanted So'lek to ride a thanator. However, it was rejected by Lightstorm due to them wanting to keep the moment Neytiri rode one in Avatar to be more special and unique.[1]
