Riku is a Na'vi of the Mangkwan clan in Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Background[]

The strongest Mangkwan fighter, Riku battles with a spear fashioned to pierce an enemy's heart, allowing him to stare them down as they expire. Varang's right hand, he sacrificed his eye for her while raiding a village that would not surrender quietly. The anger Riku harbors from a prior surprise attack fuels him to keep his wits about him, vowing never to let anyone have the advantage again. Relentless and ruthless, he never lets his guard down.[1]

Avatar: Fire and Ash[]

Riku died at the Ash Village from a shot through the heart by Recom Wainfleet on order by Recom Quaritch.

Trivia[]

  • His actor Johnny Alexander mentioned Riku died at the Mangkwan camp from a sniper shot through the heart by Lyle's Recom.
    • Johnny Alexander previously portrayed Ja.
    • There is a sense of irony in his death, as in the first film, Miles Quaritch mentioned, "We will strike them in the heart."
  • There was a real-life exhibit where a bust of Riku was featured, in which he has a slightly different design.
  • The name Riku is also a real-world Japanese name, meaning "land". However, it is also associated with the character from video game Kingdom Hearts (2002). This is somewhat ironic as Avatar and Kingdom Hearts are both Disney IPs, and Riku of Kingdom Hearts was loyal to a violent sorceress named Maleficent (originating from Sleeping Beauty). Riku also played a villainous role during Kingdom Hearts, while Riku of Avatar is loyal to a violent sorceress Varang.
