We do not capture the txursum. We do not pry the shell from her back. We take what she is willing to give.

Rimu is a Na'vi of the Tipani Clan.

Biography[]

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — So'lek's Journey[]

Between 2160 and 2162, Rimu taught the ways of the Tipani Clan to So'lek, who had come to her clan on a spiritual journey called the Path of the Promiser. One of the Path's required tasks was to create armor from the shell of the cuirass crab, in which the Tipani specialize. Tipani warriors appeared before So'lek when they saw fit, then invited him to their village and listened to his story. Rimu broke the long silence that followed and declared that she would teach him their customs.

She offered to simply fetch the shell So'lek needed, giving him a choice between her gathering it for him in a day and him learning how to do so himself within two years. So'lek takes some time to think and eventually chooses to stay and learn from her, and Rimu spends the next year and a half teaching So'lek the ways of the Tipani. She instills in him, above all, the essence of silence and the ability to listen to the sounds and rhythm of nature.

At the end of So'lek's training, both Rimu and So'lek feel the strong bond they had developed with one another. Though So'lek is about to confess feelings for her, Rimu senses this and stops him. She tells him, before he can say anything further, that if he intends to leave the Tipani after he obtains the shell of the cuirass crab, she does not want to hear anything other than him stating he is ready to continue his quest.

Rimu supervises So'lek gathering the molted shell of a cuirass crab, and stays long enough to watch him succeed and then smiles at him proudly. After this, she disappears into the trees, and does not say goodbye to So'lek.

Personality and Traits[]

Rimu is unusually warm, friendly, and patient by Na'vi standards. She treated her student So'lek tenderly, explaining to him the subtleties of Tipani's coexistence with nature. Unlike Entok, who was strict and reluctant to give lessons to So'lek, Rimu not only took the initiative on her own, but gave him the choice between long-term spiritual learning or short-term help.

Trivia[]

  • Rimu's relationship with So'lek was somewhat reminiscent of the one that had formed between Jake Sully and Neytiri.
  • She is, at the moment, the only named canon member of the Tipani clan
