Ro'até is an expert hunter and the Tsakarem for the Hulanta clan. She is one of the main characters of Avatar: Reckoning.

Biography[]

Roate with Raven Father

A young Ro'até with Raven's father

When she was young, she climbed a mountain where an RDA Samson was attempting to land to try and stop them from hurting some tetrapterons. Tiaru came to her rescue and attempted to fight off the Samson, but it only angered them further. It was then Raven's father joined them and calmed the soldiers down.[1]

Ro'até is half Rey'tanu from her father's side as her grandfather is Saotun, the leader of the clan. Ro'até takes after her father. She is brave, good at fighting, and has a passion for discovery.

Ro'até's father No'eng mysteriously abandoned Ro'até and the Hulanta clan without saying goodbye, or so they thought. He actually joined the Omatikaya clan in the fight with the humans. After the First Pandoran War had ended, a messenger of the Tayrangi clan brought No'eng's bow back to the Hulanta clan and gave it to Ro'até.[1]

According to the script, it seems O'ame is meant to be Ro'até's sister.[2] The script also says O'ame has a brother as well who disappeared one day, and is presumed deceased. Ro'até is also seen calling Angat her mother with the line, "Angat... My mother... Hulanta Tsahìk! Is she there?"

Avatar: Reckoning[]

Years later, Ro'até rescued an avatar driver, Raven, who was in danger from an agitated Hammerhead Titanothere. Raven followed Ro'até to Wetlands and was again attacked, this time by a pack of viperwolves. Ro'até once again came to their rescue.

Raven wanted to connect to the Tree of Souls, and Ro'até asked Angat on their behalf. Ro'até was then tasked to watch over Raven and teach them of Na'vi ways. Together, Ro'até and Raven saved a group of children who were attacked during their rite of passage. Later they also discovered that the RDA is building near the Wetlands, and when they learned that young O'ame was kidnapped by the RDA, they attacked the Refinery and rescued her. Ro'até used her ikran to take O'ame to safety.

War of the Wetlands[]

Wetlands war 2

Ro'até taking down a Scorpion.

The RDA, however, didn't stop there, and staged an all out attack on Wetlands, Ro'até battled the RDA and once again saved Raven who was being shot at by two Scorpion Gunships. Ro'até destroyed one by throwing it into a mountain with her ikran, and shot the pilot of the second Scorpion with an arrow. Another Scorpion arrived and started chasing Ro'até, attempting to gun her down. Now it was Raven's turn to save Ro'até by jumping on top of the Scorpion in an AMP Suit and stabbing the engines. The battle was ultimately lost, however, and Ro'até had to leave the Wetlands with her clan.[1]

Roate 2

Ro'até angered by Tiaru's death.

After the conflict, when Raven and Ro'até were searching for injured survivors, they found Ro'até's stepfather, Tiaru, lying on the ground. Enraged by Tiaru's death. Ro'até anguished over her stepfather's body. Ro'até promised to herself that Trinity Harper will pay for her actions.

For the sake of her clan, Ro'até stepped up to take the responsibility of being the Hulanta clan leader, as her mother Angat is taken into custody. She supported Raven as they made their way to the Anurai clan.

Trivia[]

Ro'até

Old model

  • "Ro'até" is not a grammatical name according to the Na'vi language as it does not contain the letter "é".[3]
  • Ro'até is one of the characters who went through a visual change from the 1st to 2nd beta.
  • Ro'até appears to have received new voice lines, possibly from another voice actor, in a later build. It can be noticed she was given a raspier and more accented voice.
  • In the script, it is mentioned whenever Raven was afraid of lightning as a child, Raven's father would let Raven play with a capsule containing a liquid to calm them down. Ro'até tells Raven she remembers the capsule as well, and Raven finds it amusing their parents brought it with them to Pandora.
  • Ro'até is very similar to Neytiri. Both are introduced by saving the protagonist from an animal (hammerhead titanothere/viperwolves), are the tsakarem of their clan, have a sister, have a deceased sibling (although Ro'até has a deceased brother instead of a sister), and their fathers were both killed by the RDA in August 2154. Also, Ro'até's moment with a dying Tiaru is similar to Neytiri's moment with Eytukan.
  • Ro'até and No'eng as well as their ikrans share a child-father relationship. Teyri, Ro'até's ikran, is the child of Midir, the ikran of No'eng.
