Tsu'tey, Neytiri is not coming. She is with Jakesully now. Everyone sees this. Everyone but you.
Saeyla to Tsu'tey before being rejected by him

Saeyla is an Omatikaya clan hunter trainee previously under Tsu'tey until his death. She is one of the unnamed recurring background Na'vi characters in Avatar along with Ka'ani, Takuk, Maru, and Atan. She is also one of the supporting characters in Avatar: Tsu'tey's Path.

Biography[]

Na'vi Hunter Training (Avatar: Tsu'tey's Path & Avatar)[]

Saeyla teamed up with fellow trainee Ka'ani during nighttime survival training. She has a tendency not to recognize dangerous Pandoran fruits and Ka'ani saved her from touching an orb-shaped one that was hot enough to burn the ground it landed on.

During one of the conversations with Takuk, Atan, and Maru, the other apprentices, Saeyla was surprised when Takuk mentioned Tsu'tey's beloved Sylwanin and with Neytiri he is only engaged, to which he himself mockingly called her "skxawng" saying that she was not the first woman to confuse these two concepts "fiancé" and "beloved". Apparently, Saeyla began to fall in love with Tsu'tey, that night she offered her a fruit that she found and assured her that "it's not poison this time" and furthermore, upon learning about Sylwanin and Neytiri, she pointed out that perhaps it would be better to become the Tsu'tey's lover.

Saeyla was one of the hunters who found and captured Jake Sully. She and Tsu'tey disagreed on Eytukan's judgement on allowing Jake in the clan; while she believed that Tsu'tey's judgement is better due to his youth and strength, Tsu'tey heavily discouraged her from thinking that way due to Eytukan's character.

Saeyla was able to bond with a direhorse, despite initial skittishness about the creature licking her. Although some of the senior hunter trainees disagreed, Tsu'tey allowed Saeyla and Ka'ani to undertake the rite of passage to bond and ride with an ikran. She successfully completed the rite of passage alongside Ka'ani and Jake.

You are nothing

Tsu'tey angrily calls Saeyla "nothing".

Saeyla participated in the great sturmbeest hunt and managed to successfully shoot one after missing another just like Ka'ani. During the Hunt Festival Saeyla invited Tsu'tey to dance but he refused and asked Ka'ani to dance with her. However, Saeyla didn't take the hint and followed Tsu'tey to the Tree of Souls and persistently tried to impose herself on him as partners, but Tsu'tey yelled at her angrily, saying she meant nothing to him, and Saeyla ran back to the Hometree crying.

Later Maru called her for a talk, after which she expressed everything she thinks about her relationship with Tsu'tey and the possibility of Saeyla becoming a Tsahik. Saeyla interrupted Maru, stating that it was none of her business, but Maru only said that they were going to a battle that they might not return alive from, which means that what must be said must be said in time.

Battle with the RDA[]

After the Omatikaya Hometree was destroyed Sayela thought like the rest of the Omatikaya that Jake had betrayed them and fled to the Tree of Souls along with the rest of the clan. However, after Jake proved his loyality by becoming the sixth Toruk Makto Saeyla realized with the rest of the Omatikaya that it was the sky people Jake truly had betrayed, not the Na'vi and regained her trust for him like the rest of her people.

Saeyla later fought in the battle at the Tree of Souls under the command of Jake Sully and Tsu'tey and survived the battle. She was among the group of Na'vi who found the severely wounded Tsu'tey, kneeling beside him crying until Neytiri and Jake arrived to help. She was with Tsu'tey as he died.[1]

Relationships[]

Tsu'tey[]

Saeyla was Tsu'tey's apprentice to train as a hunter and warrior of the clan. She respected and paid attention to what her mentor taught her. When she found out about Sylwanin and Neytiri, Saeyla began to fall in love with Tsu'tey, offering him a fruit saying "it is not poison this time", suggesting she accidentally poisoned him before. Like Tsu'tey, she disagreed with Eytukan's judgment about allowing Jake Sully into the clan; while she believed that Tsu'tey's judgment is better due to her youth and strength, she was strongly discouraged from thinking that way by Tsu'tey.

Saeyla heartbroken

Continuing to have feelings for her mentor, Saeyla tried to please him during training. During the Hunting Festival, Saeyla invited Tsu'tey to dance, but he declined, asking Ka'ani to dance with her. However, Saeyla didn't take the hint and followed Tsu'tey to the Tree of Souls and persistently tried to force herself on him as partners, but Tsu'tey yelled at him angrily, telling him that it was nothing for him, and Saeyla ran back to the Hometree crying. Feeling deeply hurt by Tsu'tey's words. However, because of that Saeyla had not heard when Tsu'tey had gently called her by name, just as Saeyla also did not know that after Tsu'tey told him such things he had regretted it.

Later Saeyla has a talk with Maru, after which she expressed everything she thinks about her relationship with Tsu'tey and the possibility of Saeyla becoming a tsahik. Saeyla interrupted Maru, stating that it was none of her business, but Maru only said that they were going to a battle that they might not return with, which means that what needs to be said needs to be said in time.

Jake Sully[]

Saeyla disagreed with Eytukan's decision to allow Jake to stay in the clan. But as time went by she began to respect him as part of the clan and even when he tamed his own Ikran she watched him with delight. After the Omatikaya Hometree was destroyed, Sayela thought like the rest of the rest of the clan that Jake had betrayed them. However, after Jake proved his loyalty by becoming Toruk Makto, Saeyla realized with the rest of the Omatikaya that Jake had really betrayed the Sky People, not the Na'vi, and regained her trust in him.

Avatar: Pandora Rising[]

Saeyla in Pandora Rising

Saeyla was added as a controllable Na'vi commander in Avatar: Pandora Rising in February 2020.[2] Though originally classed as a Rare commander, she was later downgraded to an Uncommon one.[3] Players could unlock her when they begin their first Mo'ara Raid, as she will volunteer to be the player's commander during the event. Players also received the Power Up Saeyla quest, and received Shards to unlock/level up Saeyla upon completion.[4]

Backstory[]

Saeyla grew up under the shadow of the Hometree. She spent her youth running through the jungle with her friends, Ka'ani and Takuk. She was always quick with a compliment and lending a hand for the good of her clan. As the time for their Iknimaya trials drew near, tensions between the Na'vi and the humans increased. When the elders of the clan decided that Neytiri should keep an eye on Dreamwalker Jake Sully, Saeyla did not know that her fate would intertwine with this stranger. Tsu'tey, as his eykyu (leader), mastered some of Jake's tests and Saeyla was able to see his training. As time progressed towards Iknimaya, Saeyla came to respect Jake and his determination to succeed. When the time came for the young Na'vi hunters to join their Ikran, Saeyla traveled with Jake and Ka'ani and joined in the celebration as the three of them successfully completed their training and became warriors of the Omatikaya Clan.
