The Sap Leech is a creature in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Description[]
Sap leeches are ringed worms that fly in large flocks from tree to tree, extracting sap from them. During flights, when searching for food, they line up in a single line.
A pair of large wings gives these worms speed and agility in the air, both of which they need to escape from numerous predators. The leeches themselves are covered in a bright green pattern, which helps them blend into their surroundings.
Sap leeches have suckers hidden under their bodies, allowing them to drink sap from trees and plants. A special hook at the bottom of the suction cup allows it to cling to the surface of the tree while feeding.
Sap leeches literally swell with sap, which is why they stick to the clothes and hands of Na'vi gatherers. Many clans know if someone returns home covered in leeches from head to toe, it means the day was not in vain and there is plenty of loot. The smell of leeches changes depending on what plants they feed on, which helps to identify among them those that can be used for medicinal purposes.
Gameplay[]
These small flying creatures can be seen in the sky throughout the Spires and even inside large caves. Unlike aggressive Sky Leeches, sap leeches pose no threat to the player or their ikran; moreover, flying through a flock of sap leeches will restore the health of their ikran and/or replenish the stock of the medicine bag. Sap leeches are easily visible both day and night thanks to the purple haze that surrounds their swarms.
