The Second Pandoran War (unofficial name) refers to the massive conflict across Pandora that follows the Pandoran War.

This war is a large-scale confrontation between the Resistance and the Resources Development Administration (RDA), with both groups trying to maintain control over Pandora. the RDA seeks to make Pandora the new home for humanity since conditions on Earth continue to grow worse. Meanwhile, the Resistance aims to drive the RDA away from Pandora due to their more environmentally harmful and destructive practices.

One of the RDA's main motives is to kill Jake Sully due to him being a major war leader of the Resistance, which would greatly destroy the group's morale and interrupt their plans. Jake was known for striking RDA mining camps and supply drops, stealing RDA weaponry.[1] He is known for keeping Frances Ardmore and the Security Operations busy.

The war is the focus of Avatar: The High Ground, Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It was also relevant in the cancelled game Avatar: Reckoning.

The Second Pandoran War began in 2168. Events which encompass war include the battle on the Interstellar Vehicle Venture Star, the Skirmish at the Three Brothers, the Colonization of the Western Frontier and the War of the Wetlands.

History[]

Background[]

The second war was the result of the first which dates back to 2154. Relations between the RDA and the Na'vi started peaceful but turned to tension and violence with various events playing key roles before the war ultimately started. The organization lost the first war and a majority were expelled from Pandora. However, the RDA returned 14 years later to establish a permanent colony since Earth was becoming inhospitable with numerous lives trapped there.

Ardmore versus Jake

The organization came in ten heavily armed spaceships with their arrival having been detected by those on Pandora. The new head administrator Charles Stringer along with general Frances Ardmore broadcasted a transmission and threatened the occupants of Hell's Gate to surrender and be given amnesty, or die. After the RDA made their video broadcast, Jake urged everyone at Hell's Gate to stick with their plan to fight them. Despite this, most humans decided to surrender; a group vote had been cast and more than half of them decided to do so, though some decided to fight with the Na'vi.

The group piloted a spaceship directly to the RDA's fleet, and threatened to destroy the unobtanium and the various structures as leverage to get the organization to surrender peacefully. Jake Sully warned their leader, Frances Ardmore that if the organization were to step foot on Pandora, every living thing would be united against them to drive them away. Head Administrator Charles Stringer attempted to negotiate but when Jake claimed the organization would simply never hold their end of a treaty, Ardmore made it clear the RDA no longer had interest in any sort of diplomatic solution. This led to a violent conflict on the space craft when Jake ordered one of the structures to be destroyed. However, what Jake and his team did not expect was that a human in their group had been secretly working to sabotage the plan. The explosives were disarmed and the allies on the moon were neutralized. This allowed the RDA begin to setting foot on Pandora en masse, reclaiming Hell's Gate.

The RDA began construction on Pandora by disembarking down to the planet with their Interstellar Vehicle Manifest Destiny, As they began to land their high-powerful energy engines created massive firestorms that lead to burn down the forest with the animals running away from the fire as they get incinerated along with larger trees. In the process, the land of the Omatikaya Clan became torn apart, setting up Bridgehead.

Train derailment

Some Na'vi did not know how to react to the RDA's return, wishing to live in peace. However, other strong-willed Na'vi, as well as the humans who defected from the RDA, planned to create a group that would fight the RDA until Ardmore would surrender her colonization of Pandora. According to Etuwa, "If we do not fight, we will lose everything. We did not want war... but they have made us warriors. We must bring the fight to them."

Colonization of the Western Frontier[]

During the colonization, the RDA started work in the Western Frontier. This part of colonization was spearheaded by John Mercer who was tasked with extracting resources from the area and did so however he saw fit. Under his leadership, numerous bases were constructed across the Western Frontier, many of which created heavy pollution.

Mercer final moments

John Mercer in his final moments.

There were various battles at RDA outposts across the Western Frontier. The destruction of the facilities led to less pollution and the surrounding nature to be revived. Mercer retaliated by attacking the Resistance HQ, which resulted in the deaths of various members such as Daniela Neves-MacKay and Hajir Beshara. A member of the Sarentu clan was captured but escaped thanks to an ally known as Billy Nash and was later killed as a result. Alma Cortez, leader of the Resistance in the Western Frontier, worked in the fight against John Mercer. In the end, Mercer was killed and the RDA is unable to sustain a prolonged military campaign and therefore withdraws from the region.

Unfortunately, the RDA would soon return to the Heart of the Plains Western Frontier. Led by Angela Harding, the organization attack the Zeswa clan during their festival. The RDA managed to kill Mokasa, but the Resistance also killed Harding.

Skirmish at the Three Brothers[]

SeaDragon Sinking

The S-76 SeaDragon sinks.

In 2170, after a tulkun and her calf were killed, a major conflict between the Na'vi and the RDA's Cetacean Operations broke out on the ocean at the Three Brothers in the Eastern Sea. The incident involved Jake Sully, Neytiri and the Metkayina clan versus Mick Scoresby, the Recom of Miles Quaritch and the fleet of the S-76 SeaDragon. Nearly all of the Recoms died, as well as much of the SeaDragon crew which sank. However, the Na'vi's victory came at the cost of Jake's and Neytiri's son Neteyam.

Trivia[]

RDA Highlands base explodes

The RDA's Highland base explodes.

  • In Avatar: Reckoning, the RDA's base in the Highlands is destroyed, killing an unknown amount of people.
  • In the context of The Way of Water, there is a misconception that the Resistance were supposedly winning the war, merely because they successfully derailed a train and stole supplies. However, this is not explicitly said, and with the RDA's rapid technological development and ability to bypass Eywa's immune response with their Recombinants, Jake sees the increasing danger which is why he flees the clan for its safety ("If the people harbor us, they will die.") as well as his children's.
