Sherri L. Smith is an American author and writer for the Dark Horse Avatar comics. She is known primarily for her work as a young adult novel author. She's previously worked in stop motion animation on Tim Burton's Mars Attacks, as a development executive for Disney TV Animation's animated home video projects, and as a writer for various issues of The Simpsons comics published by Bongo Comics. She currently works as an author and is a faculty member with Goddard College's MFA in Creative Writing Program and Hamline University's MFA in Children's Writing Program.

Smith has won various awards for her writing including the 2009 California Book Awards Gold Medal for Flygirl, American Library Association Best Books for Young People, Junior Library Guild Selections, and Amelia Bloomer.
