The Sarentu's banshee is an ikran tamed by the Protagonist. Its name and color depend on the mount's characteristics chosen by the player when taming it.
Biography[]
The Sarentu is sent to the ikran rookery after the Kinglor Queen, during a special ritual, sent them a vision of the RDA balloons and how they are harming the Kinglor Flowers. Upon learning this, the tsahìk Etuwa decided to fight and destroy them. She ordered the protagonist to tame their own ikran and join the fight. At the base of the ikran rookery, they are greeted by Nefika and Eetu, the latter of whom accompanies them to the top of the floating mountains. The Sarentu encounters their mount several times, but she flees from them, refusing to be tamed so easily, although the Sarentu follows her successively. During one of these attempts, the main character immobilizes the ikran's mouth with a Banshee Catcher. However, they only manage to tame the animal after reaching the heart of the rookery. The main character then makes the bond and chooses the name, as well as the color, of their ikran. To seal their bond, Eetu pushes the Sarentu off a cliff and tells them to call their mount, which catches them in mid-flight. Thus begins their first flight together.
From now on, their ikran is one of their main means of moving around the Western Frontier, and aids them in battle against the RDA.
One of the missions that the Sarentu can only perform from their mount is destroying the RDA flying devices whose radio signals have driven the kinglor from their usual nesting and feeding grounds. The protagonist must fly to the floating platforms and first hack their systems and then blow them up.
The Sarentu's bond with their ikran has been considered a symbolic continuation of the bond that, until recently, linked Eetu with his deceased ikran Zomey. Accompanied by the Sarentu, Eetu performs a farewell ritual for Zomey, scattering the seeds of the Fortune Leaf Cane, which are supposed to symbolize a new life blooming in place of the old.
Appearance[]
By default, when chasing the ikran, which initially flees from the Sarentu several times and cannot be tamed, it is green with light brown stripes on the body and red on the head. Coloring can be altered near the end of the Take Flight quest, with five patterns available from the start. The other four options presented to the player during Take Flight are awarded later as rewards for main story quests. More skins can be purchased in the in-game store for real-life currency, purchased from Kukulope for sätare beads, or obtained in one of the game's extended editions.

Name[]
The name of the ikran is limited to only one out of a total ten options the player can select from on a non-changing list. In the left column, are five names in the Na'vi language: Temek, Telisi, Amay, Nimun, or Katir. In the right column, the other five names are in English: Hawk, Floof, Carol, Fury, or Storm. Once the ikran's name is chosen by the player, it cannot be changed later (aside from starting a new game playthrough).
Trivia[]
- There is a bug where one of the main story missions may award an ikran skin you already have, depending on which skin you initially chose for your ikran. It seems that the skin rewards for main story missions may be hard-coded and do not change depending on which skin the player chose during Take Flight. This will result in the player missing one of the five free ikran skins at the end of the game. Because ikran skins are shared through accounts, one solution is to make a new file and select the ikran skin you are missing. Another fix is to join someone in co-op during the Take Flight mission and select the skin your save file is missing.
- Another ikran skin bug affects the ikran skin packs sold in the shop. Although ikran skins are supposed to be shared between all save files on a single copy of the game, purchasing the newer ikran skin packs did not transfer the skins to all files, only the one on which they were purchased. Title Update 3.4 [1] was meant to fix this, but for some, it is still bugged.
