The Science of Avatar is a book by science fiction author Stephen Baxter. It examines the workings of James Cameron's first Avatar film. According to the acknowledgements section, James Cameron and Jon Landau shared material with Baxter.

From journeys into deep space to anti-gravity unobtanium, from Pandora's extraordinary flora and fauna to transferring consciousness, the author analyzes how plausible Pandora is, and makes a case that we are closer to the world of Avatar than we know.

The book suffered a number of delays; Amazon initially posted the release date as 15 July 2010, and slowly pushed it back until its ultimate release in April 2012.
