The Throwing Scoop is a type of hand catapult that specializes in using Bolas as its primary ammunition.[1] An interesting ranged weapon even by the standards of hand catapults, the Throwing Scoop is largely used for hunting and "non-lethal" purposes that requires the subjugation of prey rather than death.[2]
Materials and Construction[]
The Throwing Scoop is constructed from a single piece of wood that has been curved and hollowed out by the Na'vi, to allow the bolas to sit tightly in place.[1] The structure, as aforementioned, is curved, in order to allow the wielder to properly control and aim their bolas accurately through centrifugal force.[1] As a hand catapult, the affect of using a Throwing Scoop rather than manually throwing a bola is multiplied exponentially, increasing both its range, accuracy and power.[1]
The smoothed, carved seedpod bolas is crafted into a wheel-like apparatus to ensure a smooth roll-to-launch.[1] Once launched, centrifugal force causes the seedpods - which has been cut into two - to split apart, exposing the woven tether and becoming a whirling bola.[1]

Trivia[]
- Although the bola has been used in the first film, the Throwing Scoop never made it into final production, with only concept art still remaining.
