The Tiger Cricket (Na'vi name: kxaylspä) is an insect that can be found in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in the Upper Plains. They lack an entry in the Hunter's Guide.
Tiger Crickets are large insects that conceal themselves amidst grasslands and meadows. They use their four pairs of multidirectional eyes to scour the glades for nutrient rich flowers and keep an eye out for predators.
Reproduction[]
Each insect has a pair of large hollow thighs which create a distinctive rattling sound. This sound is used as a call to potential mates. Once two Tiger Crickets find each other, an elaborate mating ritual begins. Their mating ritual includes lying flat to show peace, creating a joint rhythm with their sounds, and then performing a high-jumping dance to display their fitness and commitment. After mating, they stay together for life, raising their young.
Na'vi Culture[]
The Zeswa clan celebrates these crickets with a "Dance of the Tiger Cricket" at their ceremonies, where partners mimic the crickets' dance in a playful competition, with the one who falls first losing.
Trivia[]
- The filename for this creature in Frontiers of Pandora calls them "rattlebug"
