Hi editors, today was OmatiCon 2023, an online Avatar convention. Joshua Izzo, director of franchise development at Lightstorm and 'loremaster' of the Avatar franchise joined us as a guest for a Q&A panel where he clarified some details on the Avatar universe. I have compiled my notes here. These include pretty much everything noteworthy to the wiki in particular.
Here are some highlights:
- The Ta'unui are a clan, not a Metkayina clan village.
- All of the 2009 games are not canon.
- Toruk - The First Flight and Pandora: The World of Avatar are entirely canon.
- The Na'vi do not have a writing system of any kind, but they do have pictograms.
- Omatikaya is always spelled with a K, not a C. Josh was very poignant about this at the end of the panel, lol. "Be my 'avatars'. If you see anyone spelling it Omaticaya, kindly inform them it's a K, not a C" :P
Interestingly Josh did not make any comment on the old Pandorapedia pages, except the ones that were also in the ASG. So I guess some of that information is still safe?
Do not forget we have the Template:Canonicitynote. You can use my notes as a citation unless the panel ever gets uploaded anywhere, but I have heard it will not be since Josh is still under the eye of Disney. I will start going forth and marking pages related to the 2009 games as non-canon probably after OmatiCon if anyone else wants to pitch in.
Sivako!
