Veilswarm (Na'vi name: lìnghaw) are bird-like creatures that travel in large swarms, flying in a constant, unbreaking formation. Their bodies are soft and muscular with large wings that are able to catch updrafts and keep the creature suspended in the air with little to no effort, including when they sleep. As a result, they never need to touch the ground.

The wings of the veilswarm are unique, with each side having its own function. One side of the wing has a thin carapace that prevents them from being easily damaged. On the other side, their wings have small holes to collect and feed off micro-organisms in the air.

Na'vi Culture[]

Veilswarms are able to make swift and elegant movements as they fly. Young Na'vi in the Western Frontier use the veilswarm in a game that is typically played as they learn to fly their ikran. The game involves flying between flocks and attempting to capture a bird with their bare hands before letting it go. It is considered a great test of their early flying skills.
