Ward was a pilot of the S-76 SeaDragon who worked for the RDA's Cetacean Operations. He served under Captain Mick Scoresby.
Biography[]
Avatar: The Way of Water[]
Ward served as a pilot aboard the SeaDragon, which was maintained by Captain Mick Scoresby. He operated the ship by using a hand-like tool to keep the ship afloat and adjust the speed. He was a part of hunting trips to kill tulkun, aquatic cetaceans which were killed to harvest amrita.
At some point in the year 2170, Colonel Recom Quaritch and the recombinants used the SeaDragon to locate Jake Sully and his family. During the Skirmish at the Three Brothers, Recom Quaritch found the Sully kids and the SeaDragon crew eventually captured two of them, taking them hostage onboard the ship. When Jake arrived on scene and went to surrender, the outcast tulkun named Payakan breached the water's surface to land onboard the ship's deck and wrecked havoc. Taking opportunity of the distraction, Miles Socorro caused the ship to collide with a rocky outcrop by grabbing a nearby emergency fire extinguisher and subsequently bashed Ward's head and the controls with it. The ship's hull became damaged, causing the vessel to take on water. The ship eventually capsized and sank to the to seafloor, with Ward's fate being left unknown.
Trivia[]
- Ward's name was never mentioned nor credited in the cast. His name was identified on the shirt he wore at timestamp 1:40:17.
- Realistically, the severe blunt force trauma Ward sustained to his head can result in possible death (if not outright death), even with medical treatment.[1] Even if Ward didn't die, the resulting traumatic brain injury he sustained from the hard blow to the head is a very severe injury.[2]
- During the evacuation of SeaDragon, a group of crewmen in the background is seen carrying what seems to a stretcher with an injured crewmember secured in it. It is possible that this is Ward, though it could be any of the other injured crewmembers.
- Though sometimes speculated that the drowned crewmember seen while Kiri swims through the sunken SeaDragon is Ward, it seems to not be true. For example, Ward was not wearing a breathing mask when he was being knocked out, which the drowned crewman is clearly wearing. It's very unlikely that the evacuating bridge crew would put a mask on an unconscious person and leave them behind. Important to note is that the room where the drowned crewman is located is not in fact the SeaDragon's bridge; as it is much smaller, similar to a hallway, and is missing the map seen in the SeaDragon's bridge. As well, the layout of the consoles in the room differs from that of SeaDragon's bridge.
