Although not directly stated, it is implied he may have participated in the Battle of Ayram Alusìng a decade and a half ago, and survived the battle. He mentions, "We got our asses handed to us that day. But we're back now. And they're not gonna get rid of us again." He refers to the Na'vi as "blues" like many others.
Murphy introducing Raven to Vince and Ashley
Will Murphy leads a team consisting of Vince Anderson, Ashley Sloane, and most recently Raven. He quickly befriended Raven on their first day as an avatar at Forward Base. Will Murphy swayed Raven's decision in joining a SecOps team by mentioning that he knew their parents and out in the field they would find answers quicker than in the lab. The decision to move Raven from SciOps to SecOps was quickly approved by Trinity Harper.
When Raven got lost on their first mission Murphy and Ashley went to look for them in the Wetlands. Once they reunited and used a flare to contact Vince, they set off a stampede of sturmbeests which attracted an alpha dodiapede. Vince got to them on time in samson and they managed to escape being trampled.[1]
Later, while at the Highlands, he suffers from a leg injury due to a harpetooth attack. He recovers but is stuck in the Highlands for a while due to sandstorms. At some point, Raven offends Eaton Roberts by destroying a gun in order to protect Na'vi, especially Na'vi children. Murphy mentions he will report Raven's reckless actions to the RDA later.
Murphy is later sent to the Anurai region with his crew under Trinity's orders to search for an object: a horn. Although Vince wonders if what they are doing is moral, Murphy says they are to follow orders and that's that. It seems that during his time here, after being attacked by Marston of Trinity's Black Squad (and possibly killing Marston as well), he may switch sides against the RDA. Datamining suggests he may have fought against Black Squad here due to her war crimes.
